Power and Truth

05 Aug

Pilate confronts Jesus with two questions: don’t you know that I have the power to have you killed? And – what is truth? That is the language of kingdom, power and glory that the the world knows. Notice how the two halves support each other. In order to be able to say, ‘Support my kingdom or I’ll kill you,’ pagan empire needs to say that there’s no such thing as truth.

I have always felt that Pilate was trying to give Jesus a way out. Pilates wife had said to him that this was an issue he wanted to distance himself from. None the less, prophecy is prophecy and Pilate washed his hands. Denise speak….”Dude don’t make me put this on you”

I absolutely agree. Pilate wanted nothing to do with the case and, as Wright points out, he tried to use the secular state’s usual weapons – brute force and relativism – to make Jesus go along with him. Didn’t work, though. The power of Jesus’ kingdom is way beyond any earthly kingdom.

Thanks for coming by, D! Prayers for you and Jay this week.
