“Dead” Matter?

“Dead” Matter?

I would say that if “dead” matter has reared up this curious landscape of fiddling crickets, song sparrows, and wondering men, it must be plain even to the most devoted materialist that the matter of which he speaks contains amazing, if not dreadful powers, and may not impossibly be, as Hardy has suggested, “but one mask of many worn by the Great Face behind.”

Loren Eiseley, from The Immense Journey

Whenever I read quotations from someone like Loren Eisley or Emerson or Richard Dawkins I worry that our concern with education in this country is aimed too much at tech science, engineering and math and not enough to the artists and big wonderments of the imaginative and poetic mind. We need creative dissenters from the accepted norms!

Right you are, Tom! Today’s secular public schools only care about training future workers for the tech industries of tomorrow. That’s what the new Common Core standards are all about and why the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation is throwing its weight (and money) behind them. Education is the new battleground for our future.

Thanks for stopping by and keep up the fight!
